For a while, my career path has felt like two different worlds coming together.

I started out with a background in Actuarial Science, where I developed an interest in mathematics, probability, statistics, risk, and modelling. Along the way, I transitioned into Software Engineering, where I became deeply interested in programming, systems, data, and building technology.

Over time, I started noticing an interesting intersection between these two worlds: financial engineering and quantitative finance.

The more I explored areas like stochastic calculus, statistical modelling, portfolio optimization, derivatives, and quantitative research, the more I realised that this is a field where my mathematical background and engineering skills can come together.

So, I’m officially beginning my transition into Quant Finance.

This won’t be an overnight switch. There is a lot to learn — from probability and statistics to stochastic processes, numerical methods, financial mathematics, Python, and quantitative modelling. I’m looking forward to documenting the process, including the things I struggle with, the concepts I finally understand, the projects I build, and everything in between.

For me, this is less about leaving Software Engineering behind and more about combining everything I’ve learned so far into something new.

Stay tuned for more blog posts on my learning journey.
